Mystery readers

This was our best week ever! Georgia's Grandma read the bush ballad Waltzing Matilda (Banjo Paterson) to us on Wednesday and Luke's Grandad read to us on Friday.

A swagman (Wikipedia)
The song narrates the story of a swagman making a cup of tea at a bush camp and capturing a sheep to eat. When the sheep's  owner arrives with three policemen to arrest the worker, he jumps in and drowns  in a small waterhole and goes on to haunt the site.

Luke's Grandad told us about leprechauns and Ireland. He even told us a poem in Irish. (We loved his Irish accent.) The class got so excited that he got mobbed as he left but he was very good natured about it! In all the excitement, I forgot to take the obligatory photo so we're hoping that Luke's Mum or his Grandad will e-mail me one.

And here it is with...an Irish flag in the background! Susan, you're a star!

Queen Elizabeth and Anna Bligh

Try as we might, Miss R and I couldn't think of an excuse to justify a jaunt to South Bank. This is what we missed!

And if you're looking for a word to use in your next narrative or diary entry to blow us away...that colour is pistachio green.

Watercress seedlings

We read this hysterically funny book recently which made Miss R wonder if Team 2A could write something similar like a Diary of a Watercress seedling... They would need to keep careful records of the growth of their seedling and document numerous scientific facts on growth and life cycles.

If you look carefully, the front page is actually green felt. Lovely!

Jack and the Beanstalk

Jack and the Beanstalk (mp3)

Jake is a fabulous little actor! He wrote this script, learnt it off by heart and acted it out. Enjoy!

Super Hornets powering over Brisbane

We knew that the Super Hornets would be flying over Brisbane and we knew it would be over in a flash but...we still missed it!

This is what we missed:

There once was a baby koala...

Koalas balancing on a fence

“There was once a baby koala, so soft and round that all who saw her loved her.- Mem Fox"

We don't usually have kangaroos hopping around the streets in the 'burbs but we do occasionally have these special visitors! Thanks to Jordie's Mum and "Don" for this photo.

The Koala was struggling to hold onto the Colorbond (sic) fence and Don rescued her by placing a large branch against the fence which she then climbed down.
